It’s A Wash for Millennial’s in Home Design Preferences

Born between 1982 – 2004, Millennial’s are increasingly influencing housing trends, and you might be surprised at what they’re looking for.
When surveyed nationwide, laundry rooms topped their list of preferred design features in predictably open floor plans with smart home features
and energy-efficient upgrades.

Joining the leading amenities for 20% of the home owning market were hardwood front exteriors, entertainment-oriented patios and ample
garage storage. Also noting that bigger is far from better when considering housing size for this budget-minded demographic, added to the overall
“favorites” list of design features for Millennial’s were:

  • new stainless steel appliances
  • high-end finishes
  • a walk-in pantry
  • exterior lighting
  • a front porch
  • and a large dining table area for friends and family

Listed among the least favored features?

Elevators, pet washing stations and wine cellars.

Not surprising, this generation’s ability to own has been restricted by rising home prices and burdensome student debt,
so getting it right is paramount to getting the home renovation job.
